As I stay updated with fishing reports for the month of June, I’m not surprised that each of them include at least one or all three of these elements: (1) high water (2) low visibility or (3) un-fishable conditions.
Maybe local fishing opportunities seem to be exiled, and there is not a variety of places to fish, but I disagree with reports that include a collective “throwing in of the towel”, to totally surrendering fishing this June. Sometimes, if we’re willing and able to change tactics and techniques, June can be a golden month.
June is very promising for wild trout anglers. The Zero Limit Adventure Team has had great success with the high water Mother Nature brought us. High water and unseasonal temperatures require us to take a step back and think outside of the box. This can be a time of growth as an angler, learning new styles and techniques to catch fish. After reflection on our actual method and presentation of the fly, fish started to take. This included much thought regarding stream placement; thinking like a trout! Considering what Mother Nature has put before us and our reaction to it improved our flexibility as anglers and reminded us that it is fishing, not catching.
The Zero Limit Adventure Guide Crew got it done this month and we are on point! We have had quality nights posting double digit trout numbers without skipping a beat. Bug life has been excellent during these mild evenings. Occasionally, dense, swarming hatches occurred. Methods of dry fly fishing, using small nymphs and launching 3″- 6″ buggers have all had success. We’ve had the opportunity to teach a few new anglers who’ve never touched a fly rod to fly fish and they’ve hooked up and landed multiple wild trout in these “harsh” conditions!
