Salmon River Update 18 September, 2015

This week’s Salmon River fishing is best described as unfulfilled expectations.  It is clear that the major run is late.  Fishing has been sporadic although a few fish have been seen each day.  Douglaston Salmon Run reported a couple of 50 fish pods moving thru this week, a mix if Cohos and Kings.  A number of anglers reported one or two hook ups with a small number of fishermen hooking more; clearly “right time – right place”!

Fish have been moving up the Salmon River but very spread out.  Good reports came from the “Trestle Pool” area for a couple of days.  There are Kings in the “Upper Fly Zone” but again hook ups have been rare.  Reports from Lake Captains indicate many fish staging.  Again this year’s late run may be a result of the very tough winter, the same problem we faced with 2014’s sporadic run on the Salmon River.
